To Skate or Not to Skate? Waiting on the Weather
We have been blessed with cold weather into March, which means the rink will often be available to skate on.
While this week the days will be warmer, we will still be having cold nights, which means the rink is open for skating. While our gym skating unit is complete, students are welcome to bring in their skates to skate at lunch recess.
Our schedule is listed below.
As always, if we do skate, students will need a helmet and gloves.
Weekly Skating Schedule
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: Free Skate
Monday, Wednesday: Hockey
Building Things: Take a Peek!
We have been having a great time investigating and learning new skills in our Building Things unit! Over the last couple of weeks we have learned about materials, fasteners, adhesives and how to consider the purpose of what we're building to make sure we build it well. During our building challenges we've practiced creating cubes and cylinders, and using folds to attach them to our bases. Folds are our friends, and we've learned how they can help us build hinges as well. Speaking of hinges, we've learned how to use pipe-cleaners, twine and string to create them, and fasten our materials together. Our next step: building our Fairy Tale Structures!
Take a look below to see our class as they explore and develop new skills as they figure out our building challenges:
Feel free to keep on sending in any recycling you'd like to get rid of. We'll be sure to use it as we continue building structures, vehicles and toys.
Please feel free to send in any:
cardboard
ribbons
paper straws
twine
plastic containers (margarine, yogurt, etc)
styrofoam
fabric scraps
milk cartons
milk jug lids
plastic lids of any sort
Please do not send in any aluminum or tin cans or lids. These can be very sharp, so we are not going to be building with them.
Thank you!
